Explosive Chemistry Decoded
Chemistry and Energetics of Explosives
Explosive Chemistry Decoded is a course on explosive chemistry and energetics taught by Dr. Anthony Konya. In this course you will explore how military, research, and commercial explosives are designed and grouped based on the chemical components and mechanical forms. Step two will be to take these explosives and determine the basic properties that these explosive will produce including the velocity of detonation, shock pressure, and gas pressure. While this course teaches advanced topics, Dr. Konya breaks it down using a simplified approach to decode this complex world into basic principles that anyone can learn.
This course is Section 1&2 of Explosive Engineering 1 - a 30 hour bundle of explosive engineering material which is designed to take students through the various major points of the explosive engineering process and learn how to safety work in the world of the explosive engineer.
Your Instructor
Dr. Anthony Konya is an explosive engineer with worldwide experience in drilling and blasting for surface, underground, and underwater blasting projects. Anthony has extensive experience in blast design, ground vibration, air overpressure, unintentional detonation of explosives, effects of explosives on structures and has applied these skills in the mining, construction, and defense industries.
Anthony holds a PhD in Explosive Engineering from Missouri S&T, as well as numerous other advanced degrees in engineering. He has over 50 publications in explosive engineering and developed modern presplit blasting theory. Anthony is the Vice President of Precision Blasting Services, a drill and blast consulting firm, the Founder and CEO of Academy Blasting, and an instructor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
