Detonation Mechanics

Breaking down the process of explosive initiation and detonation

Detonation Mechanics takes a deep dive into the world of explosive detonation and initiation to give an explosive engineer the background to ensure proper detonation and initiation while minimizing the risk of unintentional detonation of explosives in storage and handling. Detonation Mechanics is divided into four major sections, which are:

  1. Theory of Detonation - how does explosive detonation occur
  2. Real Detonation - how do real world effects change our base theoretical model and how can we ensure that we have reliable detonation with full explosive energy
  3. Unintentional Initiation - how does storage and handling lead to unintentional detonation and how can we specifically calculate how to prevent unintentional detonation of explosives from occurring
  4. Initiation Systems - how are the current initiation systems designed to ensure proper output, and how do we calculate the output to ensure full energy upon detonation

The Detonation Mechanics course is Section 3 of the Explosive Engineering course. This can be taken as an individual section or combined with the Explosive Engineer 1 course Bundle.
